Wood Pergola built by Esh Construction located in Fort Collins Colorado

This pergola was built as a sun shade to provide protection from Colorado’s direct summer sunlight.

It consists of six cedar 6×6 posts spaced appropriately to keep from obstructing the landscaped pathway on each side while staying within the pergola beam span requirements of the local building department. The pergola posts are anchored to the concrete patio and the two concrete cassions (front posts) using galvanized 6×6 post bases and wedge anchors.

The pergola beams, rafters, and optional shade slats consist of a Douglas Fir wood. The entire sun shade structure is finished with two coats of a solid Cabot Stain. The stain color choice matches the existing color of the house trim to meet HOA requirements. The stain also greatly increases the durability and life time of the pergola, protecting the wood from sun, and moisture.

This pergola required a City of Fort Collins building permit due to the size. This typically involves building plans, permit fees, and inspections from the building department. It was built according to local building codes and passed all inspections.

Esh Construction provided a free 3D sketchup model of the pergola prior to starting the project. This gives the homeowner a great visual before making their purchase.
