This is a hardwood deck built near Fort Collins, Colorado by Esh Construction LLC. We used pressure treated framing material with structural strengths that meet or exceed the local building department requirements. The decking used here is a Mangaris (Red Balau) hardwood imported from Indonesia. Our builders used a herringbone diagonal decking pattern to enhance the aesthetics. Hardwood decks are known for the beautiful, natural colors that they offer, but they require a quality oil finish to preserve that appearance. On this hardwood deck, we used a Penofin – Natural oil stain. This product is applied with a brush or pad and must be wiped down with a cloth.
Our client needed seating that didn’t take too much of the deck space, so we designed a partial wrap around bench on the perimeter of the deck. This deck was less than 30″ above grade which does not require a deck railing. This allowed us to use the very outside perimeter of the deck for the benches and maximize the interior space.
