Pergolas are a simple yet beautiful way to enhance patios and create a partial sun shade. They can be built free standing or attached to a house and can easily be added onto an existing deck or patio. Privacy screens can be created by adding framed, cedar lattice sections or retractable shades. In some cases, pergolas may require a building permit. This is more likely when they are being attached to a house. Pergola posts can be set in grade or attached to existing patios, decks, or concrete footers. Rough sawn cedar is our standard building material for pergolas.
